Reading: We are becoming great topic detectives! This week we worked on finding supporting details when given the main topic. Students learned how it is important to ask themselves if the detail has to do with the main topic or not. Next week we will continue our work as topic detectives reading informational texts.
Writing: We are continuing to work on editing our writing and writing in complete thoughts. This week we also revisited opinion writing. We gave our opinion about if we like rainy or sunny days better and gave at least two reasons why.
Math: We love adding! We are becoming addition experts and using various strategies to solve addition sentences and story problems. When working at home with your child ask him or her what strategy he or she uses. Strategies we have used in the classroom are; using our hands, tens frames, manipulatives, drawing a picture, using a number line.
Special: Friday, we had a special Cinco De Mayo assembly. Before our assembly, our classroom learned about the history of Cinco de Mayo. To get in the spirit we also decorated our own sombreros. Ask your child why sombreros are a common hat in Mexico!
