Reading: In our unit, Getting to Know a Book, students will be introduced to common types of texts such as literature, informational and poetry, learning the role of the author and illustrator, and learning the parts of a book. We are also working hard at being independent by building our stamina during Read to Self. During this time we practice reading books in our book bin at our reading level.
Writing: During writing time we are working on labeling and drawing detailed illustrations. The students have enjoyed adding poems to their Poetry Journals. Some poems we are learning are called Me, The Friend Poem, Have You Ever Seen An Apple?, Fall, and Pumpkin, Pumpkin! These poems are great for tracking print, practicing sight words, and building fluency.
Math: Students are working on counting, ways to express a number, comparing numbers using vocabulary terms greater than, less than, and equal and counting on from a given number. Also we have enjoyed participating in number talks with Mrs. Peach, the math tutor.
Handwriting: Ms. Carla continues to visit our class each week to introduce new letters and help us learn the correct formation. We really enjoy the song about starting our letters at the top!
Check out all the sight words we have been learning! the, like, can, at, you, me, in, I, am, to and do.
Letters we have introduced: M,S, A, F, L, C, I, N, R, V
