Reading: This month our unit is Ready to Retell. We have been learning all about story elements and now we are ready to practice retelling stories using story language and proper sequence of events. We will also start our study of word families. During Daily Five time, students are doing a great job being independent as they choose to work on writing, read to self, explore word work activities or listen to reading.
Math: In our next unit, Measurement, students will learn about measurable attributes such as length, weight, and size to compare objects. We will use vocabulary words such as short/long, heavy/light and tall/short. We will have fun with a lot of hands on measuring experience using non standard materials. We continue to review various math concepts in our math journals as well as during math center time.
Writing: Students are doing a good job expressing their ideas in writing. This month we will focus on drawing, dictating and writing to tell about an experience. Finally with some snow on the ground, we will enjoy many writing activities about snow. Check out our wonderful winter writing in the hallway. Students wrote about what they like to do on a snowy day.
We have finished introducing our 30 sight words!! We will continue to practice these important words each day and we will move on to learning some bonus sight words!
